SMS Managment Training
Training Category
All department managers and senior management.
Course Objective
To provide all department managers and senior management with quality training regarding their roles, responsibilities, duties and authorities as they pertain to safety management, Safety Committee participation and the SMS; to enable department managers and senior management to foster, promote and actively participate in the company’s positive safety culture; to effectively manage reports received from the Confidential Reporting System; to understand and apply Operational Risk Management to daily management activities; to develop risk controls and corrective actions, including monitoring and follow-up procedures and recordkeeping; to effectively investigate accidents, incidents and near-accidents in order to discover contributing factors; to perform internal departmental audits and properly manage audit findings; to properly respond to various types of emergencies utilizing procedures in the Emergency Response Plan.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of the SMS Short-Course within the previous 12 calendar months.
Successful completion of SMS Personnel Training within the previous 12 calendar months.
Course Structure
This course is comprised of seven modules, each with one or more topics. After each module is a quiz with multiple-choice, true/false and other question formats. The course:
Satisfies requirements for both initial and recurrent training;
May be completed in more than one session;
May be taken as many times or as often as the student manager desires;
Produces a Certificate of Completion with test results.
Instructional Methods
Instruction is delivered via on-line computer program interaction which includes visual text, audio narration, images, diagrams, charts and other graphics.
Course Enrollment
Student managers first enroll in the course, and then log in to access the course. If the student manager is unable to complete the course in one session, the student may log out. The program records all module completions and every question answered. When returning to the course, the student manager may resume at the last point of progress.
Completion Standard
A student has completed the course when all seven modules are checked off on the Course Contents Page. Each individual module is finished after all pages within the module have been accessed and all questions have been correctly answered in the quiz associated with that module. There are approximately 40 questions in the course.
