Training Category
This course of training builds on knowledge gained in the course: SMS Training for Managers. This course of training is for the Director of Safety (Safety Officer) and designated auditors. Senior managers who want a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Safety Officer may also wish to take this course. Self-paced; approximate time to complete the four modules herein is 1.0 hour.
Course Objectives
To provide the Safety Officer with quality training in the role, responsibilities, duties and authority of the Safety Officer regarding safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion processes; to enable the Safety Officer to maintain SMS records and accomplish / administrate the SMS manual, programs and SMS database; to enable the Safety Officer and auditors to effectively conduct internal evaluations of operational departments and follow-up audits on implemented risk controls; to enable the Safety Officer to effectively lead the safety committee's annual performance of Management Reviews, in accordance with the SMS Manual and supporting program.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of this course of training within the previous 12 calendar months, OR successful completion of the course SMS Training for Managers within the previous 12 calendar months.
Course Structure
This course is comprised of four modules, each with one or more topics. After each module are review questions with feedback provided to enhance learning. The course satisfies requirements for both initial and recurrent training, and:
- May be completed in more than one session;
- May be reviewed as many times as the manager desires;
- Produces a Certificate of Completion with test results.
Instructional Methods
Instruction is delivered via on-line computer program interaction which includes visual text, audio narration, images, and other graphics.
Enrollment
Students first enroll in the course, and then log in to access the course. If the student is unable to complete the course in one session, the student may log out. The program records module completions and review questions answered. When returning to the course, the student may resume at the last point of progress.
Completion
A student has completed the course when all pages within the four modules have been accessed, and all review questions have been answered correctly. There are approximately 20 questions in the course.
