SMS Short Course Video Presentation

This Aviation Safety Education Program (ASEP) short-course video presentation should be viewed by all company personnel who want a basic understanding of Aviation Safety Management Systems, including supervisors, department managers and senior managers. This presentation is open to the aviation community at large and is provided free of charge, in the interest of aviation safety education. Total time to view the video is approximately 1 hour.
Course Objectives
Taken in part from Transport Canada’s SMS Vision presentation and used with permission, this course explains in plain language the background, benefits and concepts of Safety Management Systems. These system-safety concepts are then condensed into “hands-on” information that is easily understood and applied.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required to view the video. However, viewing of the SMS Short-Course video presentation is a prerequisite for all other Safety Management System (SMS) curricula. If you are taking any of OAG's other online SMS training courses here, please view this presentation first.
Course Structure
The SMS short-course video presentation was developed to familiarize students with SMS theory and concepts; no review questions or testing are provided. The video:
- Begins with Transport Canada’s SMS Vision presentation (used with permission);
- Discusses the status of current and proposed rulemaking regarding SMS
- Introduces the ICAO / FAA Frameworks SMS components and elements
- Presents various accident prevention strategies using SMS processes
- Is open to the aviation community and provided free of charge, in the interest of aviation safety education.
Instructional Methods
Instruction is delivered via on-line video presentation with visual text, audio narration, images, diagrams, charts and other graphics.
Enrollment
No enrollment is necessary. Simply click on the Start SMS Short Course Video button to launch the presentation. If you are unable to view the entire presentation in one session, the program records your progress. When returning to the presentation, you may resume where you left off, provided you use the same computer with which you began the presentation.
Completion
A student has completed the SMS short-course when the video presentation has been viewed in its entirety. No Certificate of Completion is provided for viewing this video. Certificates are provided for all other online SMS training courses herein.
