SMS Personnel Training Syllabus
Training Category
All company personnel, including supervisors, department managers and senior management.
Course Objective
To provide new-hire and current or previously qualified employees (students) with quality training in Safety Management Systems concepts; to enable the student to recognize the attitudes and attributes of a positive and “just” safety culture, and to actively participate in that culture; to understand and apply employee duties, responsibilities and authorities as they pertain to safety management; to understand and be able to utilize the Confidential Reporting System, including the use of online reporting forms; To understand and apply Operational Risk Management to daily activities; to properly respond to various types of emergencies utilizing procedures in the Emergency Response Plan.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of the SMS Short-Course within the previous 12 calendar months.
Course Structure
This course is comprised of seven modules, each with one or more topics. After each module is a quiz with multiple-choice, true/false and other question formats. The course:
Satisfies requirements for both initial and recurrent training;
May be completed in more than one session;
May be taken as many times or as often as the student desires or as management requests;
Produces a Certificate of Completion with test results.
Instructional Methods
Instruction is delivered via on-line computer program interaction which includes visual text, audio narration, images, diagrams, charts and other graphics.
Course Enrollment
Students first enroll in the course, and then log in to access the course. If the student is unable to complete the course in one session, the student may log out. The program records all module completions and every question answered. When returning to the course, the student may resume at the last point of progress.
Completion Standard
A student has completed the course when all seven modules are checked off on the Course Contents Page. Each individual module is finished after all pages within the module have been accessed and all questions have been correctly answered in the quiz associated with that module. There are approximately 40 questions in the course.
