Getting Started
Complete the SMS Information Document (SMSID)
OAG’s SMS Information Document (SMSID) contains questions regarding the size, scope and type of operations conducted by your Company. These include current operating rules, areas of operation, type and number of aircraft, scheduling / dispatch resources, how and where maintenance is performed, and other questions. The management structure of your organization is also examined, including the names and titles of your various aviation managers and other administrative personnel. This information will be utilized used to customize your Safety Management Program SMS Program.
Commence Online Training
Online training of all personnel may begin immediately by accessing the Online Safety Management Training area of the OAG website and taking the SMS Short-Course curriculum. Thereafter, your company name and password as provided by OAG are required to access other training modules. Training is offered for employees, managers and your Director of Safety. Vendor employee training is also offered at no charge.
Implement!
Your completed SMS Program will be posted on the internet and available for use via a secure connection. Access your SMS Program online, make revisions using our simplified revision process and print as many copies as you would like, in color or black & white. Hold your first Safety Committee meeting following the instructions and procedures contained in the program to develop your company’s Safety Profile and to establish and document specific Safety Goals (this will be covered during initial training), and you have begun.
Remember, continued support and promotion of your Safety Management System is
essential to its success. This means following through on all reported safety
issues and communicating the results of SMS efforts to all personnel.
